Nicaragua

Past Missions | December 2021-September 2022

The Toy Movement partnered with Save the Children to bring nearly 16,000 toys to children in need in Nicaragua.

The North Caribbean region of Nicaragua is characterized by high rates of poverty and exposure to natural hazards like hurricanes and recurring floods. Forty-four per cent of the region’s inhabitants were displaced from their homes, and 70 per cent of children impacted by the hurricanes reported high levels of stress and prolonged grief in the aftermath.

Nicaragua is also a stop along the way for thousands of migrant families in transit to the United States or Costa Rica. These children on the move are at increased risk of violence, exploitation, and trafficking.

Through this partnership, we were able to provide children living in both contexts with a safe and comfortable environment to build confidence through play.
